The Bibi Heybat mosque lies
on the edge of the bay of the same name, near the road leading from Baku to the
south of Azerbaijan. Depending
on your point of view, we can enjoy a picturesque location on the background of
the Caspian Sea, the old oil fields, suburbs and hills Baku Batamdar the TV
tower.
The
mosque was built in honor of the seventh sister of Imam Ali - Okumy Khanim, who
led the life of the holy woman. She
helped the poor, miserable support, share its wealth. After
the death of Okumy, the sea was placed a small crypt engraved with her name. With time,
the holy places pilgrims started coming.
In
the years 1264 - 1266 out of pir-u, a small mosque Bibi Heybat with one chamber
and two 20 meter high minarets. The name
is Bibi's aunt, and Heybat - committed to serving. Located
near the village was named Sheikhovo (the sheikh), and later to the time of
this present time is called Shikhovo.
The first time
I saw a mosque in 2006. Even
then, permanent restoration work. Mosque
has been reconstructed since 1998, and in 2008 unveiled by the One.
Unfortunately,
during the reconstruction of the exit road (extension) adjacent to the mosque,
destroyed lying on the slope section of the cemetery. Some of the tombs located
opposite the mosque. was
demolished and some of them during the work was bulldozers were open. Sticking
out of them the remains of human bones and the carpets in which they are
wrapped.
It
was not the first cemetery, which was destroyed and devastated in Baku. For many of them
now stand new buildings and settlements. I
wonder whether this affects Stalin and later Soviet policy of destruction,
which also has a mosque Bibi Heybat in 1934 and lack of respect for ancestors.
Unfortunately,
the devastation of Baku policy continues today. Are
destroyed more monuments of Baku which is the rich history and heritage
